Is this too much of an age difference?

I'm 16 in the 10th grade and he's 14 in the 8th. The reason we're dating is because we've been good friends and we hang out with the same group. I know that 2 years isn't anything when you're older, but since we're so young is it a little dramatic? When I text him sometimes I notice that he's a little hard to talk to because of his immaturity, but is that just me making a big deal about it?
